Walter Trout's 21st album Blues for the Modern Daze was officially released in the UK during April 2012. The album was playlisted on Planet Rock, the UK’s premiere classic rock radio station, for consecutive 14 weeks.

The album showcases the contemporary guitar legend’s return to his hardcore blues roots, with songwriting at a creative and personal zenith. Joe Bonamassa recently cited Trout as one of greatest guitarists of his generation.

Blues For The Modern Daze is Trout’s sixth recording for Provogue Records (a division of the Mascot Label Group), and his first full-fledged blues album in 23 years as a bandleader.

Trout is considered by many to be one of the world’s great guitarists. The former lead player for John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, Canned Heat, and John Lee Hooker, Trout recently celebrated his 20th year as a solo recording artist.

"Blues For The Modern Daze is a superior blues album, dripping with integrity, full of smoking grooves, ripping solos and great songs."
– Classic Rock Presents The Blues

"Trout embodies exactly what the blues is all about."
– Guitar Magazine

"It would be a cynical punter indeed who would walk away from a
Trout gig feeling that they hadn’t got their money’s worth."

– Classic Rock

"Strong riffs, powerful vocals and electrifying solos."
– R2: Rock N Reel Magazine

"I defy anyone not to love this album. It’s one of the best
Trout has ever penned."

– Classic Rock Society

Walter Trout - Biography

click for hi resTrout’s practical schooling in blues started when he arrived in Los Angeles in 1973 and secured gigs behind Hooker, Big Mama Thornton, Finis Tasby, Pee Wee Crayton, Lowell Fulsom, Percy Mayfield and Joe Tex. By 1981 he joined the remaining original members of Canned Heat.

The real turning point for Trout was his tenure with British blues giant John Mayall. Trout became part of the Bluesbreakers’ lineage of great guitarists along with Eric Clapton, Peter Green and Mick Taylor.

Beginning in 1984 he shared six-string duties with Coco Montoya in Mayall’s band, creating a flexible guitar dynamic that helped provide the Bluesbreakers a renaissance that returned the group to the apex of the international blues touring circuit.

Trout began leading his own group in 1989 and cut his debut album Life In the Jungle, and rapidly became a star in Europe. His first US release, 1998's critically heralded Walter Trout, made him a permanent fixture of the American blues-rock scene that he is today.

Trout's travels over the past 39 years, and his wide appreciation of his predecessors, yield a significant influence on his new album Blues For The Modern Daze.

"My main inspiration for this album,” says Trout, “was the country bluesman Blind Willie Johnson, an early blues innovator who recorded such timeless gospel informed blues numbers as Soul of a Man and Nobody’s Fault But Mine. His music is beautiful, primal, direct and deeply spiritual. I wanted to feel it at my back when we were cutting these songs.”

“The new album explores a side of my music that’s rooted in my first musical love, and it reveals something about me, too,” says Trout. “It sums up the thoughts and attitudes of somebody who is getting a older and is feeling like he’s a part of another era, with different values and a different perspective on life that’s prevalent today. I stand behind compassion, authenticity and honesty, as strongly as I stand behind my music.”

Blues for the Modern Daze was recorded at Entourage Studios in North Hollywood, CA, with Trout and engineer Eric Corne producing. It’s the fifth time Trout has collaborated with Corne, who contributed to the arrangements and sonic palette of the songs that Trout wrote on acoustic guitar a year before the sessions.

Walter Trout's 21st album Blues for the Modern Daze will be released in the UK on Monday 23rd April (24th April in the US). The new album showcases the contemporary guitar legend’s return to his hardcore blues roots, with songwriting at a creative and personal zenith. A History....

Michael John's Simi Valley Blues Festival, formerly the Write4hope Blues Festival, was the vision of Simi Valley resident Michael John Basowski. John (who also recently founded the Ventura County Blues Society) has been a musician all his life and had always dreamed that someday he could do something which would make an impact on his community.

Being a blues musician, the idea of a blues festival was the ideal way to turn his dream into reality. At the first festival - held in 2006 - Michael John teamed up with the local non-profit organization Write4Hope, who was instrumental in helping with the logistics for the event and made it possible to hold the first three blues festivals in Oak County Park in Simi Valley.

Simi Valley resident musician/actor and celebrity figure Mickey Jones has emceed the Simi Valley Blues Festival every year since its beginning. In addition, Michael John's family and friends have donated their time and talent to help make this event a yearly success, with over three thousand attendees at the 2011 Simi Valley Blues Festival. The 2012 presenters are the Kiwanis Club of Simi Valley. With the support of our Sponsors and the generosity of Hummingbird Nest Ranch (our Title Sponsor), the 7th Annual Simi Valley Blues Festival will be the biggest and best one yet!

Casey Reagan of American Blues News: between LA and Santa Barbara, you'll find the upstart Venture Blues Society where my friend Michael John is making huge efforts to get the blues recognized and properly represented in his region and Ameriblues wish him nothing but success and prosperity in the coming years. Michael sponsors the annual Simi Valley Blues Festival every year at the plush Hummingbird Ranch and he can count me in as a regular attendee as well as counting on my support any way he needs it.

In 1998 Trout released his self-titled US debut album and renamed his band 'Walter Trout and the Free Radicals' (later renamed 'Walter Trout and the Radicals' and currently simply 'Walter Trout'). Since that time Trout has been recording and touring in North America, Europe and India.

In 2002, he was featured on the Bo Diddley tribute album, Hey Bo Diddley - A Tribute!, performing the song "Road Runner" and many more guest appearances on other recordings.

The 2006 release Full Circle, meant that Trout realized his dream of creating an album with some of his most admired musicians, including John Mayall, Coco Montoya, and Joe Bonamassa, among others.

Red House - Walter Trout

One of the American guitar players who was really influenced by the british scene was maybe America's greatest home grown guitar hero... none other than Jimi Hendrix. Jimi was known more as an experimental guitar player and a master of distortion but he was really an exceptional rhythm player and a terrific blues player. This song is based on Jimi's Red House.

Walter Trout will come to your town... see him!
