The result is a vibrant amalgam of early 20th century jazz, Delta blues, American folksong, and Southern gospel.

WayneHancock releases new album Rideon February 26; roger knox’s new album out today

PLUS, THE LAUNCH OF WAYNE’S NEW SINGLE “RIDE”

Wayne Hancock has more Hank Sr. in him than either I or Hank Williams Jr. He is the real deal.” — Hank III

-

Following over three years on the road, Wayne Hancockhas recorded a new album, Ride, which will be released on February 26, 2013 (and available for pre-order here). Ride is Hancock’s eighth overall full-length album and fifth for Bloodshot Records, following the well-received Viper of Melody. In support of the record’s launch, Wayne will be extensively touring across the U.S. (current dates below).

To commemorate the album details and tour date announcement, we would like to share a song stream from the forthcoming Ride, the album-title track “Ride.” You can listen to the track here - https://soundcloud.com/bloodshot-records/01-ride- and embed/share the song via Facebook, Twitter, etc. You can buy the song at Amazon, iTunes, or any of your other favorite online digital retailers.

For show ticket information and buy links visit Wayne’s tour page on Bloodshotrecords.com or his website.

Ride track listing:

1.       Ride
2.      Low Down Blues
3.      Best To Be Alone
4.      Lone Road Home
5.      Get the Blues Low Down
6.      Deal Gone Down
7.      Fair Weather Blues
8.     Home with My Baby
9.      Gal From Kitchen’s Field
10.  Cappuccino Boogie
11.   Any Old Time

Produced by Wayne and his longtime producer/collaborator Lloyd Maines (Uncle Tupelo, Wilco, Dixie Chicks, Joe Ely), Ride further cements Wayne’s life-long calling as a modern-day traditionalist through his signature mélange of roadhouse blues, hepcat boogie, rockabilly, and juke joint swing. Throughout Ride a theme develops wherein soul searching transforms into letting go; where the back-porch, rocking chair contemplation seamlessly melds with the atmospheres of the lively, carefree honky tonk or just the open road that leads there.

INDIGENOUS AUSTRALIAN ROGER KNOX RELEASES
NEW ALBUM STRANGER IN MY LAND
TODAY, FEBRUARY 12

PLUS, THE LAUNCH OF HIS NEW SINGLE “BLUE GUMS CALLING ME BACK HOME” w/ KELLY HOGAN, JON LANGFORD AND OTHERS

Featuring producer/collaborator Jon Langford (Mekons, Waco Brothers), Charlie Louvin’s possible last recording, guest appearances from Kelly Hogan, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, Dave Alvin (Blasters, X), the Sadies, Sally Timms (Mekons), Andre Williams, the Pine Valley Cosmonauts, and others.

Elegant, suffused with meaning and essential. – Canada.com

Both a revelation and a fine album in a style that seems timeless, Stranger in My Land should, in a fair and equitable world, bring Knox an appreciative audience in America, and it may well illustrate how much American country music has lost and left behind in its brazen pursuit of the pop charts. 4 out of 5 stars. – All Music.com

Part travelogue, part National Geographic special, and part crash sociology course, Stranger in My Land, the new album by Roger Knox is surely to be the most important album you will listen to all year, and might just be the most important album of the decade… Stranger in My Land is a five on a five scale listen. – Cool Album of the Day

To commemorate the album release, we would like to share a song stream from Stranger In My Land, the Kelly Hogan and Sadies featuring “Blue Gums Calling Me Back Home.” You can listen to the track here - http://soundcloud.com/bshq/roger-knox-and-kelly-hogan- and embed/share the song via Facebook, Twitter, etc.

You can order the new album at your favorite online retailer or over at Bloodshotrecords.com.

Bloodshot artist Jon Langford (Mekons, Waco Brothers) met Roger Knox – the Koori King of Country or Black Elvis – on a visit to Australia several years ago and, when he heard Roger’s story and captivating music and the potentially-soon-to-be-lost subculture of this utterly unique cultural collision (a.k.a. Indigenous Australian country/western music), knew he had to put out his next record. Stranger In My Land is a collection of songs originally written by Indigenous Australian artists who were Knox’s predecessors, some tunes previously recorded but difficult to find as well as several unrecorded, handed-down folklore songs (which without this recording, could be lost forever). It is powerful and moving material, suffused with longing, alienation, resilience and hope; universal themes arising out of a previously unexplored context. It carries the weight of a Harry Smith document, but with a spirit that remains relevant in today's world.

Bloodshot Records signs Luke Winslow-King

BLOODSHOT RECORDS SIGNS NEW ORLEANS-BASED ARTIST LUKE WINSLOW-KING

THE COMING TIDE TO BE RE-RELEASED IN MARCH 2013

Bloodshot Records is very excited to announce the signing of New Orleans-based artist Luke Winslow-King. Luke initially caught our ear with his unique style, emerging from the ashes of Delta blues, New Orleans traditional jazz, ragtime, and pre-war American folksong. After being transfixed watching Luke and singer/washboard player Esther Rose perform gorgeous duets at a noisy college bar in Chicago we were straight up hooked. His amalgam of sounds is full of culture and texture, and respectively Winslow-King’s knowledge of music history and attention to detail are nearly as captivating as his impeccable song compositions, guitar technique, and warm voice.

As for a little background detail: in 2010, already with two full-length albums under his belt, LWK formed a trio consisting of Rose and upright bass player Cassidy Holden that remains the namesake’s core incarnation. In June the group self released the exceptional The Coming Tide and after being bowled over, we knew Luke and Co. would make a great addition to the roster.

In March 2013 Bloodshot will re-release The Coming Tide with bonus tracks and new packaging.

Below is the remainder of the LWK’s show dates in 2012, with many more to come in the new year. He and the group tour extensively – roughly 175 performances over the last year – so keep an eye out for them in your area.

Bloodshot Records Release: Andre Williams - Hoods and Shades - Review - Release Date: Feb 28 2012

I have just received and had the opportunity to review a new release by Andre Williams called Hoods and Shades. The release consists of 9 tracks teaming up with Matt Smith and with Dennis Coffey on guitar. Andre ventures into a folk/rock/psychedelic/ R&B zone. Other guests include Jim White (Dirty Three, Cat Power), Greasy Carlisi (Robert Gordon, Chris Spedding), Jim Diamond (Dirtbombs) and Don Was. The first song, Dirt, is a straight forward uptempo blues track. It is followed up by A Good Day To Feel Bad, which is a rhythm track with spoken word and tasty guitar riffs played behind. I've Got Money On My Mind is an interpretation on Snoop with a little James Brown and jazz flavor. Hoods and Shades (the title track) again more of spoken word over a rhythmic background is interesting and has cool guitar soloing throughout. Jawdropper is back to a basic boogie. Andre uses his singing style but really is again more of a talking voice. It is a nice contrast to what I am accustomed to. Again a cool guitar riff. Hu-Matic Man, a more swampy blues tune, has nice guitar riffs and moves along at a shuffle beat. Mojo Hannah is a real swampy song almost like a Dr John Voodoo song from Lousiana. Swamp Dog's Hot Spot is a pretty cool story song again with a mystic kind of aura again with some laid back undertones. The last track, Gimme, is a bit more uptempo but again consistent with the balance of the recording. Overall I think the cd is very interesting. If you want to check out something different, this may be it!

Although this track is not from the cd it gives you a rough idea what to expect.
